It is time I speak about why my wings have been clipped the last number of months as many of you ask where I have been or where the Copper Queen is when I am on a different bike, thank goodness I have been able to continue carrying the Throttlegirl message with the support of several gracious H-D Dealerships and individuals that believe in what it is I am promoting in this world, rewarding people that are doing good in this world, highlighting people that grab their eternal throttle everyday. It really is that simple. So here goes…the adversity I am walking thru and the beauty that has come from the experience thus far.
In August of 2012 I set out on a journey with the intensions of traveling across this country raising awareness and money for Children’s Cancer in my inaugural long distance campaign as Throttlegirl. As most of you know and for those of you that don’t, the story did not end the way I had it scripted. Over 2,OOO miles into my 6,000 mile quest, a deer jumped out in front of me and I was forced to lay down my trusty companion, the ‘Copper Queen,’ my custom Road King. I was so incredibly fortunate not to have gotten hurt, however, after the twelve-hour rescue, she was not so lucky and insurance has deemed her totaled based on the value of damage of her custom work.
Up until now, I have chosen to not talk about the difficulties I have found with dealing with AAA Insurance. Truth told, eight months later and I am still dealing with the situation and it is far from resolved, a very unfortunate situation. They stand firm on the value of my bike essentially equaling what the cost of my paint job is worth amongst the other numerous details I need not feed here on this platform. Ironically enough though, they totaled her based off the value of her custom work.
Needless to say it is a mess and my Copper Queen still sits totaled, not able to carry me, nor Throttlegirl message. This my friends, is why I have not been out on the road in the full capacity as some of you have inquired within about. They say good things come to those who wait and I continue to believe… What I will tell you is I have learned a great deal and I have not given up faith that AAA will do the right thing. Even if the last several attempts to have AAA contact me and continue to try to resolve the matter positively have not been responded to… I still have faith.
Let’s get to the beauty in this situation! The amazing friendships that have been born and the support has been nothing short of miraculous. Because of several fabulous Harley-Davidson Dealerships and some very inspiring individuals, I have been able to continue a portion of my mission of ‘Rallying All to Rise as One’ utilizing sponsored motorcycles. I am forever grateful for these gifts and words cannot express my gratitude nor will they ever. These businesses and people have been Throttlegirl Angels and true TG Road Warriors.
Having said all of this, if you have a question about a particular bike…ask me! I have been able to ride and play on several different models and haven’t met one I haven’t liked yet! While I wouldn’t recommend test riding this way, it has been great getting to know the feel of all these sponsored bikes. You know me, always looking for the gold nugget in the situation!
Not looking back and moving forward I’m standing tall in the face of adversity just as the Throttlegirl message promotes. I am dedicated to seeking what is right and what is fair and I truly have faith the Copper Queen will ride again. Please help get Throttlegirl back out on the road! The Throttlegirl ‘2013 Summer of Support Tour’ is set to take off across the country August/September, Riding Non-Stop for Non-Profits. Where there is a will there is a way and I will be out there traveling this country (on some sort of a motorcycle, Copper Queen or not), rewarding several non-profits with much needed funds and support. This has cost our mission greatly and enough is enough, our hands have been tied but it is time now to break free of AAA binding less than professional and extremely disappointing business ethics and corporate responsibility code.
You can help Throttlegirl get back out on the road numerous ways. One of which is by taking care of yourself, living the TG message and make sure your insurance is doing its job. I ask you, please…make sure our insurance broker is your ‘friend’ and that you are not just a number and a paycheck to your insurance company. Do not be afraid to ask questions and assume nothing. Tell your friends and family to do the same thing and tell them what I am going through so you/they make sure they don’t. Tell AAA this is not okay. And most of all…continue supporting the Throttlegirl Mission of rewarding good in this world. Together we really do make a difference.
Because of the generosity in this world and belief in Throttlegirl’s mission, while my wings have been cut, I am still able to fly. Pretty soon I hope to be riding the thermals, firing the Copper Queen back up and hitting the road carrying my torch. For this I am humbly grateful to you all.
Throttle Up friends! Always…no matter what!!!!!
